Teachers are able to add questions and passages to the Item Bank.  They are also able to add standards to each question and share those questions.


The following question types can be added to the Item Bank:

  • Multiple Choice
  • Extended Response
  • Passages with Questions

Add a Question to the Item Bank: Multiple Choice


A teacher can easily add their own questions to the Item Bank by navigating to:

Lessons>Item Bank>Search



The Item Bank Search page will display and allow you to add a new question.


Click on the ‘Add New Question’ button.


Note:  Please be aware your screen may display different choices than depicted in this User Guide.



You will be directed to the ‘Item Bank Question Editor’ Page.  


Select the correct Item Bank and Item Bank Group from the drop down.  

Select the Question type from the drop down. The options are Multiple Choice or Extended Response.


Enter your question in the “Question Text” text box.



Enter your answers in the ‘Answer Choices’ text boxes and check off the correct answer in the left column.


Next, attach a standard to the question by clicking on the ‘Select Standard’ button.



A pop up will display that allows you to select your state, subject and grade from the drop down menus.


  1. Click the triangle to expand the choices for each standard. Please expand the choices until the radio buttons are visible.
  2. Click the Radio button on the individual standard you are selecting. The choice will turn blue.
  3. Once you have finished your selections, scroll to the bottom of the pop up window and click the ‘Finish’ button.



You will notice the standard that you selected is listed in the Attributes section of the page.


Scroll down and click on the ‘Save & Create’ Button and you will be returned to the Item Bank Question Editor page to enter your next question. 


If you are entering another question with the exact same attributes, you have the option to click the ‘Copy to New Question’ box to have all the attributes including the standard added to the subsequent question.



When you click the ‘Save & Create’ Question button with the ‘Copy to New Question’ box checked, the Item Bank Question Editor page will display the next page to add your question with the standards already attached.




Add a Question to the Item Bank: Extended Response


If you are adding an ‘Extended Response’ question, you will follow the same instructions as above, except you will select the ‘Extended Reponse’ option from the drop down menu.


Please add the question in the ‘Question Text’ box.

Then enter the suggested answer and grading criteria in the ‘Suggested Answer and Grading Criteria’ text box.



Select the standard to attach and click on the ‘Save and Create’ a Question button.




Add a Question to the Item Bank: Add a Passage


Navigate to the Item Bank Search page and click on the “Add New Passage’ button.



You will be directed to the Item Bank Passage Editor page. Select your Item Bank and Group from the drop down if necessary.  Add the passage name to the ‘Passage Name’ text box and the new passage to the ‘Passage Text’ box.  Select the Fiction or Non-Fiction radio button. Click the ‘Save and Create Question’ button to be directed to the ‘Item Bank Question Editor’ page.


Now you can add the questions as described above and remember to click the ‘Save & Create’ button to create the question.




View My Questions


Navigate to the Item Bank Search page and click the blue ‘View My Questions’ hyperlink to view all the questions you have created. 




You will be able to view all the questions you have created with the correct answer checked off. 


If you wish to make changes to your question, you can click on the eye glasses icon to open the question.  You will have the ability to make changes.  Keep in mind, questions can be changed, but they cannot be deleted. Remember to click the ‘Save’ button to save your changes.
